"CHP in white camaro"

Recent posts suggest others may share an interest in speeding.

I just saw a white camaro with CHP markings on the side today. An exterior light bar on top, but a very flat one. You would be unlikely to id this vehicle if you saw it in your rear view mirror.

I know a lot of us have gotten good at picking out Crown Vics and Caprices in the mirror. Have to watch for camaros now too.

Anyone seen camaros used for traffic enforcement? Sometimes special vehicles are used for special projects, like community outreach.

Wouldn't it be easier (and safer) to drive closer to the speed limit?

It would be safer not to participate in this hobby too! This is no place to cast stones for someone that's letting others know about a concern regarding speeding tickets. I appreciate the heads up!!

I have by the way seen these chp cars. They have been around for a number of years.

they were purchased to do traffic control for Trucks. That does not mean they won't stop you for speeding, but their main purpose is to catch those truckers who speed, drive in the wrong lane or make unsafe lane changes. There was an article on the news about them several weeks ago. I think they bought 12 of them for use in the valley and bay area.

Watch out for them, the CHP is getting sneaker and sneaker

I am still lookinforit

I saw one had a truck pulled over on 85 in San Jose. Commercial Truck over a certain tonnage are not allowed and I think this trucker tried to sneak throught the valley using the short cut. But I do see the camaros frequently.

I saw my first one in the Bay Area last Friday around noon time. It had pulled over a passenger car going west bound on hwy 237 (just around the Alviso area).

i drive 280 between san mateo and san jose nearly every weekday.

the CHP is now using unmarked cars (i didn't look at the make)
as well as the normal marked cars on this route.

i had one playing games with me the other day. going 70 in the fast lane, so i'd try to pass him on the right, then he'd speed up.
when a car was in front of me in the 3rd lane, he'd slow down just
enough so that i could cut him off and cruise ahead in the fast lane (fortunately i didn't take that bait).

eventually he moved to lane 3 and i passed him at 80 in the fast lane. i looked right to see he the bozo was, and it was a CHP and he was pacing me (now speeding up and staying even with me). i slowed down and for whatever reason (maybe because i never cut him off or he hadn't paced me long enough) he just gave me a stern look and let me be.

What seriously sucks for folks with this car they have is that the light bar is clear and it blends in real well with the car when you see it in your rear view.

I have never seen something like this used by local LE, the design is not suited real well to urban patrol.

Cover and go long and deep men

Actually, they have been doing this in selected areas for a while now. I see them regularly on I-5 between the bay area and Sacto, usually at the south end of sacto. The light bar, according the the chips, was camouflaged to look like a ski rack.

The chp has had ghost cars for a long time now, and have added the camaro's recently. The more the public responds(recognizes) the old cars they bring in the new. It does seem to work for awhile, and hey who wants to to be killed in a tc?

Drive safely and reduce the risk.

So buy a white Camaro with a conspicuous ski rack, and own the road!
