Like many others here, I have been following the saga of BigBlueBoy, AnnaKim, and her anonymous accuser (and yeah, this is my “real” handle, which I have been posting under for five years).
When the review about her from “Well_Known_Rber” came out, I decided it might be fun to figure out who really authored the post by using Textual Analysis techniques.
For those of you who don’t know about it, Textual Analysis is used to determine authorship by comparing stylistic and linguistic similarities between the subject work, and the known work of a particular writer.
Methodology differs between users, but common elements in the analysis include word usage (including the user of obscure words or phrases), mechanics of sentence structure (such as a reliance on adverbs), unconventional use of punctuation such as hyper hyphenation or use of ellipses, Capitalization of Concepts, certain obsessions about political or social matters, and so forth. A well publicized recent usage was to unmask Joe Klein as “Anonymous”, the non-de-plume used by the author of the book Primary Colors.
Textual Analysis is a hobby of mine, and I use it from time to time here on RedBook when I detect congruence in styles between posters, for the purposes of refining my own techniques. Sometimes I don’t come to a conclusion, but when I do, it’s not my habit to advertise them.
An exception came earlier this year, when I found that Polevault was the author of the Yer_Pap posts. I announced it in the belief (later found to be mistaken) that Polevault intended for someone to find it out, and say something. (I pause here to extend a long-overdue apology to Polevault for that little fuckup.)
So, it wasn’t my intention to say anything this time, either, until I came to discover that the identity of this “Well_Known_Rber” and self-proclaimed Lapdog, is none other than BigBlueBoy himself.
This result was so surprising to me, that I went back and re-examined the threads on the topic to see if it made sense. And it turns out that it does resolve a lot of lingering questions about this incident quite nicely:
* Why would a well-known Rber, and especially a Lapdog, not identify himself by his RB handle to Anna? Why be an ass-kisser if you’re not going to trade off of your reputation? But BBB wouldn’t ID himself, else Anna would not see him.
* The reason offered by this Lapdog for using BBB as a proxy -- that he doesn't want his handle linked with his contact info, lest he get a bad rep -- is utter nonsense. He didn’t present his handle to AnnaKim, and he needn’t do it with any other provider. But BBB needed an explanation, and this bowser was the best he could manage.
* Why wouldn’t this Lapdog be concerned that he would subsequently run into AnnaKim or the other “popular provider” at a RB social, and be unmasked? Because he’s BBB, and he never gets invited. End of problem.
* How did the Lapdog manage to contact BBB (multiple times, it seems) so quickly after the session? Why did he contact BBB – a Lapdog nemesis – at all; wasn’t he concerned about BBB turning on him and revealing both the “threat” and his cherished handle? How is it that BBB can state so definitively what the Lapdog did or didn’t do, say or didn’t say? These and many other unanswerable questions are neatly resolved when you consider that it was BBB all along.
I believe that BBB was secretly smitten by AnnaKim. But it was an immature kind of affection, like that of a grade-schooler who torments the object of his affection on the schoolyard. He managed to score a session with her, but their personalities didn’t mesh from the outset (there’s a surprise, eh?). BBB tried to push her boundaries, perhaps figuring he would get a last-chance warning, but he got cut off instead.
Every man on this board understands the sting of being denied service by prostitute. Words were spoken. Whatever the context, BBB latched on to something Anna said as the vehicle for his payback. But he could not post as himself, nor contact a moderator. Who would take it seriously? The satisfying image of BBB being frog-marched out the door after he tried to finger-bang Anna would be what endured for most people here, not the “threat” he wanted to sell.
So he came up with this “Well-known RB Lapdog” artifice.
And what a canard it is, too. A person who truly “fears” having his contact information exposed does not rush home and post the undesired review, AND splash posts all over the message board about it.
And despite attempts to present a veneer of altruism, the review itself was stuffed with nuggets of extraneous invective that had nothing to do with a warning about any “threat”. But on the other hand, if BBB hadn’t done that, there probably wouldn’t have been enough text in the review for me to perform an analysis, and identify him.
And that, I consider poetic justice. Hoist by his own petard, by golly.
