"Female condoms"
I was wondering if any of the wonderful female providers had ever had any experience with the female condom. If you have had any experience, how does it effect tongue to clit contact, and other sensation?

I have heard that they are not as effective as regular condoms. I think they are more expensive too. They would probably give me a bladder infection, no thanks!!

My last girl friend and I used them ALL the time. Had one break in over 2 years of 4-6 times/week usage, and that was due to too much foreplay, and it dried out. They do cost a bit more, perhaps 6 for about $9, but they work very well. They also come with their own lube tubes, which isn't normally necessary

In my opinion, they are much more sensual for the guy, as there is nothing "choking" me. The GF said they felt great too.

As for your question, there is plenty of room to either "go through" the condom, or around it, for clit play. I believe it's also a bit better for prevention of STD's, as it provides cover for the entire shaft, and depending on gonad size, can prevent them from touching the vagina lips also. When properly fitted, it pretty much covers the lips.

I give them 2 thumbs up!

for herpes. A provider who posted here said she got infected because the condom she used did not cover an area near the base of the penis, sounds like it would have not happened with this type of condom.

What's true for male condoms is probably true for these condoms; the more correctly they are used, the more effective they are.

I've never seen them, and barely heard of them. Just out of curiousity, is penile size an issue as it is with male condoms? Most of you probably didn't see it, but I posted a thread in the General board about how I was looking for a replacement for Magnums (something that allows more sensation to get through) (and yes, I use lube on the inside when it's available).

Not unless you are a horse. Literally. You would have to be HUGE (think john holmes, plus 2-3 times his diameter)

But they are polyurethane (sp?) and are not as elastic as latex. Can't imagine breaking them without really trying hard, as long as you keep them somewhat lubed on the inside.

Yes, I really believe that they cover the base of the penis MUCH better than any male condom I've used. In fact, you'd have to really come in at some steep 90 degree angles to have a chance of contact.

They look as though someone made a mold out of the outside of a penis. At the closed end is a rubber type "ring" that holds it in place. According to the old GF, and from what I felt, the ring held in place well with no "funny" feeling. At the open end, a larger ring holds the condom in a big circle, hence the added protection.

When you take it out of the package, it doesn't need to be unrolled; it's loose and flexible, yet a very strong tensil strength. That's why I believe it feels so good on a guy, as it doesn't wrap tight around you; it's almost like the vagina just has a thicker skin.

As for length, their about 9" long. As for circumference, I guessing about 2.5" diameter minimum, which means at least 7.85 inches in circumference.

The learning curve is 1 condom.

Charlie,

I've played with these things with my provider and agree whole-heartedly with your comments. However, the outer ring reminds me of a diaphram, a slightly larger diameter than your guess, all in JEST (no flame) I think you have the diameter mixed up with radius, a radius of 1.58" (radius squared = 2.5) or diameter of 3.16" would give your circumference of 7.58", but a great guess nonetheless. Bored yet? You may now snore.

A good replacement for Magnums are Durex "Ultra Comfort" They are a larger size and roll on easily. And they are thinner than trojans and taste much better

I hope so, because they claim they are larger, but they suck (and not in a good way)!

I don't know about Maxx. I have had nothing but great experiences with durex. Remember, "Ultra Comfort" is the larger size!!

I find that although the Durex are thinner and provide more sensitivity for me they are a bitch to unroll. I finally gave up on them and went back to Trojans. Oh yea, Never tried the "Ultra Comfort" No need for me.

14. "If you thought Magnums weren't large enough..."
On doing my research this past weekend, I found out that there are now Magnum XLs, which are even larger.

Reminds me of a joke I heard a comedian tell when Magnums were new:

'Great, now that they have Magnums, you can't ask for regular-sized condoms in public anymore. The other day, when I finally got through the line at the drug-store and was speaking to the pharmacist, I loudly said, "Give me a twelve-pack of those Magnums! It's going to be a busy night tonight!" Then, under my breath, "Uh, and a box of rubber-bands."'

Okay, I just got the straight dope (ha ha) about the Durex Ultra Comfort from my hubby. I asked him if he really liked them. He as an average length, but is very thick and has a hard time rolling condoms on. He said that most large size condoms are geared toward extra length, but not thickness and so it does not help him out. But, he said that the Durex Ultra Comfort was extremely easy to roll on and did not feel like it was choking his cock. Anyway, I just thought that I would verify my reccomendations!!!

17. "Thanks again!"
I can relate to your husband's dilemna. I'm trying to remember how I got by before Magnums, and thankfully the memory's faded.

I think I was not as concerned about safety (was in monogamous relationships, etc) or, on the few occasions where I used them, just suffered through trying to roll them on and discarding them if they didn't work, a few of them per event, until one finally went on or I gave up. Ugh!

Thanks again! And I'm sorry about hijacking this thread!

It seems that this topic got hijacked, and turned into a 'magnum' discussion.

I am not a 'female provider', but I have had several experiences where the provider used one of these. For me it was much more sensitive, as there was none of the restriction that is present with a normal condom.

There is one unusual side effect though. That is that there is a squeeking sound due to the friction and sliding, and that the material is polyurethane, and not latex. Kind of like the bed springs squeeking. LOL
