"Best pick-up bars?"
As a recently transplanted East Coaster now living in the East Bay, I'm still trying to figure out the night life here in the Bay Area. Gentlemen, what/where, in your experienced views, are the best pick-up bars in SF and the East Bay? Or are there possibly no obviously good pick-up bars here in the Bay Area? Having had only moderate success for the past couple of years, I'm quite open to any suggestions.

help with info but your query is vague. Are you looking for working grrls? that really is what this board is about. Are you looking for civilians? well, what age range, ethnic group, and social type (Goth, secretary, hippie, wino) are you seeking?

Thanks for replying. I do realize that working girls are primarily what this site is about, but I have occasionally seen somewhat unrelated postings here as well. So I thought, why not give it a shot? Sometimes I'm just in the mood for the escort -- can't beat a sure thing, especially if you do your homework first in RB -- but at other times I do like the thrill of the chase, as it were. But I have been a bit disappointed with the Bay Area as compared to what I was used to on the East Coast (NY area), I must say.
To be more specific, then, I'm inquiring about non-working girls in the 25-35 yr. old range, any ethnicity, secretary type would be ideal, but I'm open to any types, really.

I think the SF Bay area might be a bad spot for falling in love with a beautiful girl for one night of free sex. I don't recall much in the way of beautiful civilians available for free sex on the east coast either. I think that one can not escape the trade off between looks and money on either coast but on the west coast it is much easier to get the lookers if one has the money (Check the MBOT or the Carson City Brothels.) There is absolutely nothing like that on the east coast today.
If you want knock out, drop dead, center fold quality providers for a night of kinky sex for under $20 there is always Cuba.

Well, perhaps the Bay Area is, as you say, just a bad spot for falling in love for one night. However, falling in lust for one night will do -- she doesn't have to be stunning, just cute with a fairly nice body. I'm not as particular as I used to be.
Did I mention that my East Coast experiences were a little better than they have been here? I'm just wondering if i'm looking/hanging out at the wrong places. that's all.

I remember riding that Manhatten Subway after work with billions of young girls. Washington DC is much the same: Gazillions of chicks on the street but its strickly hands off until you get them to fall in love with you for the short term (This has always been very difficult for me.)
I think the ratio of boys/girls is way high in northern California (That is the popular belief.) Ugly civilians are always in high demand because ugly guys think they can get lucky with them. I always perfer beatiful professionals for sex because they know what they are doing. Now is a bad time for that because providers are unable to gracefully lower their prices to reflect the soft economic times. Sorry but I'm afraid it will only get worse. I'm even having trouble finding sex slave in this economic down turn. My neighborhood pimps must be on vacation.

Well, it's been a while -- and the rules are changing all the time-- but for the kind of women you're looking for if you haven't heard of "The Bermuda Triangle" you should check it out. The 'triangle' specifically refers to the intersection of Fillmore and Greenwich Streets where there have historically been pick up bars on three of the corners, but more broadly includes a bunch of places in the Union Street neighborhood. Cruise it and see for yourself.
Then there's the bars downtown in the financial district after work -- especially Thursday and Friday. Harringtons and the Royal Exchange are two that come to mind, unless they've closed (I might be dating myself! )
Finally, and someone may get red in the face with me about this, some of the rowdier Irish pubs out on Geary/Clement USED to be a SURE THING for picking up VERY marinated women after midnight...
Theres more ...haven't mentioned South of Market (SOMA) scene, but I've given you a good start. Even if my info is a little off, you'll have fun checking things out.
Personally, I'd look in SF Weekly or the Bay Guardian, find a music spot that's playing something you REALLY like, and go there. Much more likely to meet someone with similar interests....

Hey Panther, great tips -- this is exactly what I was looking for. I live & work in the East Bay, and only occasionally get into the city -- and don't always have a good idea on where precisely to head. But clearly I need to drive in to SF more often -- thanks again! I'll definitely check out your tips.

In a very general sense, if you are a Palm (or other handheld user) you can download a free service called Vindingo off the SFgate website. This lists almost all the bars & restaurants in SF, their location, phone, etc. It also has reviews of many of them, which should give you a pretty good idea what is going on. If you do not use a Palm, all the info for Vindingo comes off the food & entertainment reviews on the sfgate website. So you can get the info there as well. It is just sort of cool to have it all in your Palm and be able to call it up at will.

I made the rather crass assumption that tall_gent would only let you tag along if you brought your.....palm. Of course, he has his own palm, which he is clearly VERY familiar with, but, truth be told, I think he'd rather have yours.

You know, I've never done a threesome, though I actually had a chance to do so about a year ago. A cute, dark-haired girl was rather blunt about it, but her friend wasn't really my type at all, so I chickened out (to be honest, I was also caught offguard by her bluntness). I now deeply regret it, of course; in fact, I regetted it about half an hour later, but at that point I couldn't find them again. It would certainly have been an interesting experience, no doubt about it. And as I look back upon such a wasted opportunity, my memory is such that her friend becomes increasingly good-looking!

Hey guys,
I have been to a number of the clubs in SOMA, and let me tell you: I'm 33, and sometimes I feel like I'm too old to hang out in places like that. I'd say that >90% of the crowd are in their early or mid 20's. I could pull it off in my upper 20's, but...anybody in their 40's will probably be by far the oldest person there, and feel it, too!
I still go clubbing in downtown SF and SJ on rare occasions, but sometimes I think those days are falling rapidly behind me.
Lots of young hotties, though, just like Valley Fair mall in the south bay. Great girl watching. But clubbing is best enjoyed as just a fun night out with your friends without the expectation of picking up, because it is FAR from a sure thing.

if you want to find a more laid-back older crowd (30s-40s!!) try the endup, although it has its fair share of burnouts. e & c are the chemicals of choice.

Thanks for the tip. I can fit in with the 30's/40's crowd, especially if it is kind of a professional one.
Still, I didn't mention that when it comes to potential GFs, I still have my eyes on the women in the 24-29 age range. Assuming, that is, that they are relatively mature and not too flighty...
I'll be sure to check it out!

"The Endup" is a nightclub with liquor license at the corner of 6th and Harrison in SF. Has been there for at least 25 years and is one of only very few nightclubs allowed to be open practically all night. Hence that is where you always "ended up". The crowd and the level of hipness has varied throughout the years but they have survived. For awhile there, they used to have themed weeknights (rasta night, etc.). I don't know what they are doing today. Can't miss it; it's across 6th Street from the car wash.

Ruby Skye is what your looking for. Saturday nights are the most crowded.Its over by Union Square, kind of upscale,dress code, 20 dollar cover but lots of girls. If your even semi attractive and have any kind of conversation skills you should be able to hookup. Its a major pickup spot. Believe me I know.

24 to 32 is average age, Ya there are guys there. there is a dress code so they are dressed nice. Saturdays are really crowded and at capacity by 11.

As somebody who is probably a little older than Ms_Magic, I can say that just because she isn't in her late 20s it doesn't make her old (or me for that matter). Just somewhat older than you perhaps.
One of the only things I could appreciate coming out of Ronald Reagan's mouth was his response when the question of his age came up during one of the presidential debates: "I won't hold my opponent's relative inexperience against him." I know the quote isn't quite right, but the sentiment is.

Lived for many years in the DC area as a single guy and never had a problem meeting women. Never, ever, paid for companionship. At singles functions women outnumbered men 3-1. In Sacramento, the same kinds of functions show the opposite ratio. Bleak at best. And now with the internet making it easy to find providers and even learn a little about them, I have abandoned the singles scene entirely and am quite happy with the hobby! However, I am planning to move back to Maryland soon. Will report...
